The Blistered snake eel〔(Common names for ''Callechelys papulosa'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕 (''Callechelys papulosa'') is an eel in the family Ophichthidae (worm/snake eels).〔(''Callechelys papulosa'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕 It was described by John E. McCosker in 1998.〔McCosker, J. E., 1998 (27 Apr.) (23298 ) ''A revision of the snake-eel genus Callechelys (Anguilliformes: Ophichthidae) with the description of two new Indo-Pacific species and a new Callechelyin genus.'' Proceedings of the California Academy of Sciences v. 50 (no. 7): 185-214, Pl. 1.〕 It is a tropical, marine eel which is known from Papua New Guinea, in the western central Pacific Ocean. It is known to dwell at a depth of 10 metres, and to inhabit regions of sand and grass. Males can reach a maximum total length of 55.1 centimetres.〔 ==References==
